Banteay Chhmar Temple
History of the temple
Banteay Chhmar is a temple built from the late 12th to early 13th centuries during the reign of Jayavarman VII to dedicate to his four sons and generals who were sacrificed in the Battle of Den Cham in 1177.
Banteay Chhmar Temple is located in Banteay Chhmar Village, Banteay Chhmar Commune, Thmor Puok District, Banteay Meanchey Province, approximately 7 km from the northern provincial town of Banteay Meanchey.

This fortress depicts a battle between a man and a giant-headed man, which G. Cœdès considers the story of the sculpture to be found in the Khmer inscription K. 227.
The inscription tells the story of a battle between Srinakarma (son of Jayavarman VII) and Bhārata Rāhu, whose two bodyguards were willing to sacrifice their lives to help him. A lion statue was found on February 3, 2020 at the Mey Bon Temple in Banteay Meanchey.
